A God’s Journey – Chapter V
Jumari sat... and sat... and sat. He waited for what seemed like hours, and no Kaymin. Finally, after staring into the tunnel for as long as he could, Jumari stood and turned to explore the oasis. His eyes grew wide with astonishment. The whole place was an ancient volcanic crater! It had a large pool of steaming, crystal clear water in the middle, spouting from a gushing waterfall. Beautiful, lush, vibrant trees sprouted from the edges of the lake, harboring colorful birds that Jumari was sure no Wild Dog had ever seen before! The sides of the crater were too steep to climb; how would he get out? The crack in the wall, of course, but what about Kaymin? How was he supposed to enter?
“Jumari! Help me down!” a voice called. Jumari recognized it in an instant: Kaymin! He followed the sound of his mentor’s voice until he saw him clutching a tall palm.
“How did you get up there?” he shouted upwards.
“It’s the only way in for an old dog like me! Get me down!” he wailed again. Jumari sighed; this wasn’t the first time the old thing needed help. He clambered up the bent trunk of the tree until he was clinging to it for dear life. He grabbed Kaymin’s tail and yanked backwards.
“OUCH! What was that for?!” he snarled.
“Back down the trunk slowly! Once the trunk’s wide enough, just slide!” Jumari told him. He scrabbled backwards, and then slid down the tree with ease. Kaymin did the same, but landed with a hard Thump! on the rock. He stood and shook the dust from his coat.
“I presume you’ve explored?” he asked,
“I have. It’s beautiful, isn’t it?”
“Yes, it is. It is where Alphas and Healers come to commune with HeavenPack” Kaymin said, staring at the lake. “Did you touch the water?”
“No. You told me not to” Jumari replied. Kaymin patted him on the back with his tail.
“Well done! You obeyed!” he barked. Jumari was confused.
“Why couldn’t I touch the water? What is so special about it? It doesn’t look too hot, if that’s what you meant”
“Ah, all in good time young apprentice. All in good time” Kaymin whispered over his shoulder. He strode to the other side of the clearing, Jumari at his heels. He commanded Jumari to stay put while he searched through the dense jungle for something to show him. He kept his white-tipped tail high so Jumari knew where he was, but it suddenly whipped down and Kaymin let out a sharp wail of pain. . . .
I realize I never attached a picture of Kaymin or Izefia! I hope this one works. It was hand-recolored by yours truly! I now also realize I accidentaly erased the signature at the bottom. Sorry! I don't have a very good one for Izefia; this one is of Kaymin:
