((Is anyone reading still? Just wondering. I'm just writing this chapter because I have an itch))
I was barred on each side by Canis and Lupus. They'd decided they only needed the two of them. I glanced up at their powerful figures, then looked down. They would take me out of this maze of forest, but would I make it back? Without Sirag, or Canis and Lupus, who would guide me? I thought I heard a twig snap. I froze, waiting to see if my companions heard it as well. They did. They tensed and pricked their ears, but then shrugged and continued on. I absently wondered what that could have been. Surely not any prey. I pushed it to the back of my mind, but it didn't work. It had become unusualy crowded since those flat faces had grabbed me from my beautiful home. I felt an angry wave pass over me.
What gave them the right? They seemed to think they owned everything, or something like that. Never! I had never seen anything like that. No flat faces had ever crossed into our desert. I flicked my tail irritably. Right in the middle of mating season, as well. I was sure all the good vixens were taken now. I shook my head. That's not important!
I was so occupied with my angry thought I didn't notice the object infront of me. I smacked my paw on it and tripped, my nose in the dirt. The wolves stopped and turned, brows raised. I got up, my face hot. But Canis didn't care. He nudged me out of the way and nosed the objest. It was a bright colour like the sun, and hurt my eyes slightly. Canis flipped it over while Lupus watched. It was hollowed on the inside, but round ansd smooth on the top. Canis growled loudly and snapped it up in his jaws, throwing it into the denser part of the brush. Lupus watched it fly and laid his bushy tail on Canis's shoulder. "Don't worry, Canis. We'll be fine. The humans will leave..." He trailed off, but I wasn't surprised when I heard the soft 'eventually....'. So, the flat faces were ruining it here, too. I snorted, and Canis grunted to signal onward.
We parted the bushes. Finally, I was free! The sky was big and blue infront of me, and a strange, salty smell lingered in the air. A fresh breeze blew, running through my fur. I raised my head appreciativly. Canis smiled. "Well, Little One, this is as far as we go. Now it's up to you. Head right to the waters edge, then hop a human boat. Make sure it.... Hm..." He thought. Lupus tucked his chin in, giving his chest a lick, then looked up. "Make sure it's big, big, big, white, with long red stripes." Canis nodded in approval. "Yes. That sounds right, What Lupus said." He waved his tail expectantly. I smiled weakly. "Thank you. Truely. Thank you. I'm sure Sirag does too. And farewell." The wolves nodded and turned tails without anymore, returning to their darkness. I took a deep breath, and rushed forward. I was here. A step closer.
I had never seen so much water! And it tasted strange, all salty and tangy. It stretched out from eye to eye. And big floaties were everywhere. I guessed these were boats. I looked for the boat Lupus had described. I found a huge one where many flat faces were boarding. It was white, and had red stripes running along it. I knew this was it. I was pulled towards it. I slipped under flat face feet until I was aboard. The waves lapped against the boat, rocking it gently. I got a slightly sick feeling, but dsived for cover under a heavy tarp. I breathed a sigh of relief. I was here. And now I didn't have to worry about anything, but getting home.
"Hi, I'm Kalayna. But everyone calls me Ka." I turned my head slowly. Huge, amber eyes stared at me. I yelped and scrambled back. Her eyes seemed to alight the whole area under the tarp. She looked just like Canis. I could only guess this was his daughter. Only, her fur was a light, sandy colour. I opened my mouth, but I couldn't speak. Ka didn't have a problem. "I've always wanted to go on an adventure. Canis never lets me anywhere. So, where are we going?" I turned my head back around, and laid it on my paws, sighing.
One step forward, two steps back.
The forums are closing, good bye all! It's been a nice couple of weeks. And remember- Just because an animal can't speak, doesn't mean it can't feel pain.
