    Re: Cannibalistic Animal Trick

well in the game pretty much every carnivore is a cannibal. Some animals wont kill their own species out right, but when some other animals kills one of their own, they sure wont mind feasting on them.
Also i have observed that animals prefer eating from a dead animal's carcass more than anything else, even more than artificial carcasses. So what I do is put in some small (read:inexpensive) animal with another unhappy, larger carnivore let him kill off his prey and use the resultant carcass as the source of food in exhibits. If there is an animal carcass in the exhibit, the carnivores will generally avoid killing other animals (atleast not for food), they will just go to the existing carcass and eat from it. And very conviniently, you can rafill an animals carcass just as you can an artificial carcass, so its forms kind of a permanent solution.
This doesnot work for crocs, they just seem to like killing for the sake of killing.

    Re: Cannibalistic Animal Trick

Firstly in ZT2, animals usually eat their own young because there's no room. Even if they dont show there's no room there is. It worked for me to give them more space. Still it does help to seperate them.

And with wolves. In the wild if a female who IS NOT an alpha has pups, the alpha female will fight her the pups ownership. I've never heard of a case in the wild with wolves eating their young, it probably has happened before but not often. Wolves are all about the pack. the bigger the pack the better you can defend your territory and hunt bigger game. They're very smart animals, if there's too many they'll chase them out of the group.

That is a good idea, but I don't think I've had one of my Nile Crocs eat their own young. However, my two T-Rexes had their own child and I was watching as it said '........ is going to give birth' and then shortly after it was born (having done another job) I couldn't see it in the enclosure, it was gone, having only witnessing it's birth just beforehand.

So, maybe the T-Rex is a Cannibalistic Animal.

    Re: Cannibalistic Animal Trick

As long as the animal in question has enough space, food and privacy it won't kill any of it's kind or any other animal for that matter. If an animal kills one of it's babies, it means you changed the exibit before the birth because the animals have to be pretty happy to mate.

No, wolves wouldn't eat their own pack members, that's for sure.  Crocodiles, however, I find are pretty okay. I can keep hippos, panthers, flamingos, and beavers in the same exhibit. The crocs only ate like two beavers and two flamingos. I only find that malexmale will cause an attack. I've never had a malexfemale attack or femalexfemale, unless of course they're of different species.
The forums are closing, good bye all! It's been a nice couple of weeks. And remember- Just because an animal can't speak, doesn't mean it can't feel pain.

I've had two Males fight, and two Females fight.  But I don't quite remember if there was any Male and Female fighting one another ...

Once I did a zoo (JUST for fun!!) where I put cats in a big enclosure. But in the big cage were little cages, with one cat per cage. Then I selected two cats and put them in a bigger enclosure and they killed each other. If provoked right, BOTH males and females will fight. male+male will fight.  female+female will fight.  male+female will fight.

all animals have the potential to be cannabalistic.

Lions will kill and eat lion cubs if they know that the cub is not their child.  they do this to maintain dominance within thier own pride.

bullfrogs will eat pretty much anything that moves including smaller frogs.  some frogs will even try to eat things that are bigger than they are and eventually just give up when they can't fit it in their mouth or choke to death.  frogs are not very smart.

mice and rats will eat their own babies right after giving birth, it is rare but it happens.

the king snakes main diet is other snakes.

a praying mantis female will eat her mate after having sex.  I am pretty sure black widow spiders do as well.

vultures and other carrion eaters will eat nearly anything that is already dead, even if it is one of their own.  although a vulture carcass is not very filling.

there are even human tribes that still exist today that are cannabalistic.  cannabilism is rare but it can be found in every species on the planet.  not a nice topic but it is true.

you know a lot about cannibalistic animals!
