Hello, everyone. Who is this kit Skywing found? Is he really going to have to live with her?
Skywing sat at her usual perch atop a large rock on the windswept plateu. It wasn't like her old home, up in the mountains, but it was fair. She had a large, open view of most of the Clans. The Tribes were a mystery to her so far, though. Suddenly, a shrill mew splintered the silence of the afternoon.
"Who's that?!" Skywing snarled. She stood quickly and turned to face her attacker. But when she looked, who stood before her was not a fierce Clan warrior, but a tiny kit. He looked at Skywing with pathetic little amber eyes.
"Who are you?" she asked, circling the kit. He stood, looking at his paws.
"I don't know" he replied. His fur was glistening, as if he was either extremely well-groomed or just born.
"How can you not know?" Skywing was excrutiatingly curious. She smelled the kit's pelt, but he didn't smell familiar. Of cource, that's what seasons upon seasons alone in the mountains can do to one's nose.
"Are you lost?"
"I don't know. Have you seen my mother?"
"Dear, I don't know who your mother is. What's her name?"
"She never told me. But she was very pretty. Very, very pretty" Skywing was astonished. What kit, however wayward, would not know his own mother's name?
"Oh my, what's this?" she said. There was a gorse twig stuck between his legs.
"Get off! I can fight!" the kit screeched. He launched himself at Skywing's flank, knocking her off balance and drawing blood.
"My, you're a fighter! Unusually sharp claws for a kit"
"Yeah, aren't they! The only thing I remember my mother saying to me was that I must be desended from SkyClan"
"You must! Tell me, do you know your way home or are you lost?" Skywing didn't feel like having another mouth to feed, but she was actually warming up to this newcomer.
"I'm lost. And I'm hungry. Do you have any food?" the kit mewed. He looked up at Skywing pathetically, his amber eyes gleaming.
"No, but a friend does. Say, you look cold. Mind warming up?" Skywing motioned with her paw for the kit to walk under her body, with her soft belly fur warming him. The two made their way, carefully, down through the twoleg place and behind in a twoleg yard.
"Now, stay here. I'll be right back. Don't wander off or I won't be able to find you, okay?" Skywing told him. She positioned him in a clump of whitish flowers that camoflauged his fur.
"Okay. I won't move a hair" he answered. He lay down and he was hidden even further. Skywing clambered over a tall, white iron fence and landed softly in a lush garden.
"Kisa! Ryker? Are you two in?" she called. She knew Kisa had just bore kits, and was full with milk for the new kit.
"Hello, Skywing! How are you? Doing relativley well, I see?" a slick brown tom stepped out from behind some Oleander.
"Ah, Ryker! How is Kisa?"
"She's well. Want to see the new kits?"
"Sure! Come to think of it, I'd like you to meet my new kit!"
"You have a kit? Messing around with those other rouges, I see" Ryker winked at Skywing playfully.
"No, I found him. He wandered onto my rock while I was sunning myself"
"Ahh. Well, bring him in, and Kisa'll have a look at him while you have a look at the kits!"
"Good plan! I'll go get him now" Skywing leaped over the fence and picked up the tom-kit in her jaws.
"Where are we going?" he asked as Skywing landed once again on the other side of the fence.
"We're going to meet some kits your own age. You'll like them" Skywing bouned over to a small, cream she-cat nursing two kits, a male and a female.
"Mind looking after another for the moment?" she questioned. Kisa nodded and nudged him toward her belly.
"Yours?"
"Found him"
"Ah. Want me to take him off your mind and add him to my litter?" Kisa asked. Skywing gave her an odd look.
"What's that for?"
"I found him, so he's mine" Skywing answered. Kisa pshed her own kits toward Skywing to play with. Soon, the tom-kit finished nursing from Kisa and went to join the others.
They romped and ran until nearly sundown.
"I'd better get him back to my plateu. Mind nursing him for a bit more to hold him over for the night?" Skywing meowed.
"I've got a better idea" Ryker suggested. "Here, it's an herb to get you to produce milk even though you have no kits of your own. I can't exaclty remember the name, but it worked for Kisa" Ryker gave Skywing a small bundle of sprigs. Skywing gobbled down the bitter-tasting herbs and collected her tom-kit under her for the journey home.
"Thanks, Kisa, Ryker. I'm sure he'll like life with me"
"Like it? From what Ryker tells me on his days off in the forest, he'll love it with you, Sky! Take care!"
"Next half-moon?" Skywing called over her shoulder.
"Sure! Bye!" Ryker saw Skywing and the kit off and returned to his mate in the flowers.
Skywing kept the nameless kit under her fur to keep im warm until they arrived at the crag in a large rock that was Skywing's den.
"Hmm... quick mind, sharp talent, definatley sharp claws..."
"What are you talking about?" the kit mewed, settling in between Skywing's front paws.
"Trying to decide on a name for you. You can't go on nameless forever, you know"
"Have you decided yet?"
"Yes. Are you warm?"
"Yup"
"Ready for tomorrow?"
"Ready as ever!"
"All right, Sharpkit. Let's get some sleep" and with that, Skywing put her head next to Sharpkit's and fell asleep.
