But Frost did not pay attention. “Run!” She pushed Storm out of the nest. As they ran, Storm could only hear rumbling and their footsteps.
“Is dad still behind us?” She asked. Frost just shook her head and kept on running. Storm looked back over her shoulder. She could still hear a great booming noise, but there wasn’t anything besides snow and her father’s fur in the distance. “What are we running from?” Storm panted. Frost just kept running.
When Storm could hardly run anymore, Frost suddenly shoved her into a rock cleft, and then jumped in beside her. They both panted heavily for a moment. Once they had caught their breath, Storm asked once more.
“What’s happening?”
“Thunder.” She replied. Storm looked blankly at her.
“Thunder?”
“Yes, Thunder.” Storm remained silent. But she soon spoke,
“What do you mean, Thunder?”
“Prophecy Thunder.” Storm glared at her mother.
“Stop talking in riddles!” She yelled in annoyance. Then she added more quietly, “Start from the beginning!”
“Alright,” Frost said. “I’ll start at the beginning. A long while ago, when I and your father were still young, and you were not born yet, Wind and I liked to go adventuring with our friend Sky. You remember Sky, right? That grey wolf?” Storm nodded. “Well, we went adventuring. So one time, we went far from our dens. All the way past the Dragon Crest Mountains and through the Swift Tunnels.” Frost pointed at each landmark. “We like to think we’ve gone farther than any wolf in the Snow Plains.”
“Did you?” Storm interrupted. Frost giggled.
“I don’t think so, but you never know. So once we went really far. And one night, near the Dragon Crest, we went looking for a den. We had been hunting very late, and it was very dark outside. Then we found this nice, big cave, sheltered by a giant boulder. We slowly walked in, and we found it was brightly illuminated. When we paced closer, we saw a large pool of water, though it was not very deep. Suddenly we felt a wind, and we looked up to see the Great Wolf Star, the brightest star in the sky, shine its light on us through a hole in the cave roof. It reflected perfectly of the water, and it lighted the cavern just right. So we slept there that night.”
