Slipped Away Prologue It was midnight when the Moon was full in the Forest of Darkleaf. The stars made the leaf-covered ground sparkle a bit. The leaves crumbled as something stepped on them. It was hours later when a fox appeared. She poked her head out of a bush, and lifted her head up to sniff the air. A loud sound raged through the air like a young wolf who had just caught its first prey, and the birds screeched terrified above. Something was wrong, and the Fox knew it. She stalked closer, soundlessly, but still felt she was being stalked herself. She sniffed again, but found nothing. She stopped in her tracks, her right fore-paw lifted, frozen. She stared backwards up to the Moon and Stars. This was the only night that the Moon would be full for six months, and the last time to escape this year. The Season was the Middle of Orangeleaf, and in a Month and A half, one Flame would go out and all hope of escaping the fear of the black forest would be gone. She ran back to the bushes, but didn't come out alone...

Thanks! Here's chapter one:
Chapter One
Not one, but four sleek white foxes Slipped out of the tangles. The one who brougth them out limping due to a gash on her leg which was still bleeding. "Why have you called us, Snowfur?" Snapped one, "Can't you see the moon is full? Or, are you blind?" Snowfur growled as her sister spoke these offensive words. "Are you, Icetalon? Can't you see we are the only foxes left in Darkleaf? We must go!" She snarled at her older sister. The eldest, Whiteleaf, shook her dipped head slowely, annoyed. "You call us out every night at Moonfull" She sighed, still annoyed at her younger sister's never ending faith. Winterstream, Snwofur's twin, smiled at her twin's courage. Her eyes shined as the moon reflected onto them. She stared up at the short rock Snowfur was sitting on, her white fur given a tint of silver by the Moon and Stars. "I think we can make it" Winterstream sniffed confidently, "Just because we have no mates doesn't mean we are helpless. And anyways, we wont be getting any here. Snowfur said we are the last foxes in Darkleaf". Snowfur frowned, uneasy at the words. Winterstream gave her a confused look. Why did her loyal twin seem so uncomfortable at her words? She glanced at Whiteleaf, who was giving Snowfur a worried look. She was also shaking her head no, as if one of the, kept a secret that only they knew. "You believe her?" Icetalon mumbled, even more angry now that Winterstream was in it. Whiteleaf stared up at the black sky. Moonfull is past, and soon it will be Sunwake. Lets all make a decision as we sleep" * * * Snowfur awoke with a start. She had been getting up much later since she started bringing her sisters out everynight. Whiteleaf was nudgine her in the side. "I know why you are tired, past Moonfull is barely how late foxes older than you stay up." Whiteleaf said as she helped her younger sister up. "So, is it agreed?" Snowfur asked, still a bit wobbly. "Yes, Icetalon gave the only no, but she's coming anyways." Whiteleaf replied softly. They made their way out of the burrow their mother had dug before they were born. The sky was bright blue, and Sunwake had past. It was now Sunfull. * * * As the main Hunter, Snowfur lead the way. She left her three sisters under a tree to hunt. She came back with three mice, and then wen't to hunt for herself. As they ate their mice, the sun grew hotter. "I wonder whats gotten into Snowfur lately. Usually she catches three rabbits." Winterstream mumbled. "I dont know. She was turning into a fine hunters untill this 'We must go' started." Icetalon replied while striping a piece of meat. Whiteleaf wiggled uneasy. It had been hours since Snowfur had left. She must have caught something by now. Then Whiteleaf began to worry. She knew where Snowfur really was.

(Nevermind the background of some of the pics, just look at the animals please!) Chapter Two
Whiteleaf lead her two sisters through the forest, and into the most unexpected place. Right next to them, was a hard unatural object. It was a Tallwalk* fence. This was a forbidden area, which no fox was supposed to go. Whiteleaf sniffed the air. It carried a strong scent of Tallwalks nearby, but also their sister.
"She went this way!" Whiteleaf called back over her shoulder to her uneasy sisters. Whiteleaf waited while Winterstream slowly came to stand next to her. Icetalon stood frozen next to the tree where she and Winterstream had been waiting. Something had caught her eye.
"Whiteleaf! Winterstream!" She called, her mouth barely moving as she said these words. Whiteleaf and Winterstream bounded over. They stood in shock next to Icetalon. There was their sister, but not alone. She was standing next to a gray rectangle thing, most likely made by Tallwalkers, but it was what was inside the box* that bothered. them. Inside it, sat a little white Housepup.
"Sno-" Winterstream was about to call, but was cut off by a growl from Whiteleaf. Snowfur and the Housepup were grooming eatchother through the bars of the box! This was forbidden by the laws of foxes. Housepups were selfish and never had to do anything except look cute for their Tallwalkers. Why would their sister br with one? Snowfur and the Housepup paused. They had both heard Winterstream. Snowfur recognized that voice and mumbled something to the Housepup before going off to investigate.
"Oh great, now she's coming!" Icetalon growled, "Hide!" Snowfur walked silently up to her sisters, and snarled. "I thought you were waited!" She growled, not happy that her sisters now knew her secret. "Why are you with a Housepup!" Icetalon growled back, ignoring what Snowfur said, "Don't the Fox Rules make any sense to you?" Snowfur was about to argue, but she heard the sound of the Housepup wimping and clawing at the box he was in. His Tallwalker was taking him away! She put him in her Roundpaw*. Snowfur ran off after it. "Ruff! Stop! Come... back..." Snowfur panted, and began to slow down. When she came to a full stop, her sisters could finally reach her. "Snowfur, what is this all about?" Winterstream asked, curious at why her sister cared about this Housepup so much that she chased after him this far. "I... I... I loved him." She cried, as a tear fell off her cheek. Snowfur, exhausted from the long fast run, fell over with those words. "You knew, didn't you Whiteleaf?" "Yes. I did." Whiteleaf replied softly.

Sorry its short, I didn't have much time. Chapter three
Many hours later, they had found a small den to sleep in. Far after Icetalon and Winterstream had fell asleep, Whiteleaf noticed Snowfur sitting at the mouth of the den. "Snowfur," Whiteleaf sighed as she approached her sister. "So, there goes my Happy Ending" Snowfur interupted, half-way to herself and half-way to Whiteleaf. Whiteleaf sat next to her, and realized what Snowfur was staring at. It was the Roundpaw path where Ruff had dissapeared with his Tallwalkers. "Snowfur, how did you meet in the first place?" Whiteleaf asked, trying to get Snowfur to think of the times she did have with him. "I was hunting one day, you remember that day I returned far later than usual? I saw him jumping his fence. But unlike us Housepups fall on their backs, or anywhere thats not their feet. Well, anyways, he jumped down but missed the box he was trying to land on. He fell on his back and tumbled down the steep rocky hill. I ran after him, trying to help. When we reached the bottom, he layed there still. I sniffed him, and found he was still alive. I dragged him under a tree. He woke up, and I was the first thing he saw. We talked a bit. Before coming back I swam in teh river to cover his scent. Thats why I brought fish." Snowfur paused, sniffing the air "Somethings wrong!" Whiteleaf sniffed, she sniffed nothing wrong. But minutes later, she saw it.

Im bored, so I'l just add this (Listen to "My Happy Ending" if you want). Chapter Four It was Ruff! But the thing that had alerted Snowfur was another dog of Ruff's species. It had female scent, and she had been with Ruff awhile. Ruff licked her, and she licked him back. Snowfur sat in silence. It was impossible to read her mood, but it was clear there was pain in her heart. She turned back to look at Whiteleaf and her fur was wet with tears. It was clear that Ruff had forgotten her. He had abandon Snowfur, forgotten the times they had, how they met, and all they had men't to eatchother. Snowfur's blue eyes where full with tears. She left the den, leaving Whiteleaf alone. Snowfur had passed Ruff and his girl. It was clear he did not care, as he took her away whenever Snowfur got close. Snowfur look away and walked silently away. She found two hills the moon was hidden behind. She looked back at Ruff and gave him an angry glance as he and the female walked obliviously back to their Tallwalker home. "Go back and stay at your Tallwalkers you Housepups," Snowfur growled at them, "If you come back I'l give you what we always, and I should have done in the first place, give Housepups when they enter our territory!". She didn't feel like that inside. What she did feel was Misery and Pain. She lay down on the soft grass and cried. * * * When her sisters had found her, Snowfur lead them again. This time, Winterstream had to Hunt since Snowfur wouldn't move except to lead. When Winterstream returned, Snowfur wouldn't touch her mouse. She just lay there untill her sisters had finished. Then, she silently rose and started walking the way to the new forest, not even bothering to shake the bugs and dirt from her fur. Three days passed. Snowfur hadn't said or eaten anything for two days. Whiteleaf had only gotten her to eat a few small bites on the third day though. The river gave them constant water supply, but Snowfur barely drank unless Icetalon threw her in the river and wouldn't let her out. More days passed. Snowfur, her coat now brown from dirt, was now thin and slow. Whiteleaf knew she couldn't keep up walking and living like this. Something had to put a stop to it. Whiteleaf called them to a stop to say something. "Snowfur, you can't keep going like this" Whiteleaf snapped, "You'll die". "I know" Snowfur replied, barely able to say those words. Snowfur then walked over to the river. She look at her reflection. She sighed. This was not her who she saw in the water. It was some miserable, dirty, and ragged fox. She had to change, but was it to late?
