    The Changeling

    I.
I always considered my species to be one of the ugliest on the planet. Who wouldn't? Humans have no fur or scales. We have to make ourselves look good with fabric and paint just to impress each other. Mirrors were invented so that we could admire ourselves in our natural falseness. Humanity has separated itself from the outside world through solid walls and wired gizmos. That is why I am leaving all of that behind; I will soon change my form into a more beautiful and more natural one. Animal.

    II.
I'll always remember the looks on my parents' faces when I told them about morphism, a permanent species change. My dad looked like he had been hit over the head with a crowbar. They asked, no begged, me to think long and hard about this major decision. It was too late anyway. My mind had been made up as soon as I had seen my close friend go through with it. He started out as a gangly, awkward guy with a bad stutter and glasses. His only friends were on the internet. And me. He changed, almost magically, into a graceful, feline form, retaining only his incredible mind and the gift of human speech. Now he wanted me to be with him, and I had agreed. In a few days, I will close the book on humanity once and for all. I can no longer bear the shame of the disconnected nature of this species.

    III.
Three days. That's how long I have in humanity. I don't care anymore. Ian knows that; he is almost the only one from my old life who still speaks to me. I have met the scientist in charge of the morph. He described the process. It has to do with a lot of complicated genetics, which is why it took so long for the process to be perfected. Still, it's rare for anyone to go through with this. Good. Three Days. Wow.

    Re: The Changeling

No. But how could you say humans are ugly? I mean, compared to horses and stuff, yes we're ugly. But some people are so beautiful

    IV.
It's started. I recieved the first elixir only an hour ago. The doctor said that it will take about four of this drink, which happens to taste rather vile. I'm not complaining, though; I know what I'm doing. I can't doubt myself. Not anymore. The only change I've noticed is that I feel hot and sore. The doc says not to worry, and that these symptoms are normal, but there has always been a nagging doubt in the back of my mind that something would go wrong. Am I just being stupid? No. I can't go back now. It has to work.
