    The Dream Catcher

I will still continue my other story, for anyone who is still reading it, but i felt like starting this one too
I hope that i didn't steal anyones idea, i don't think that i did, but if i did, i'm sorry
This story is about people and animals and i want at least 3 people to give me feedback before i finish the next chapter if anyone likes it

    Chapter 1

The only sound that night was the sound of a choir of crickets humming their usual late night songs.  The wind whistled softly over the waving leaves of the swaying trees and the silvery full moon shone in the cloudless sky.  Not a single light was on in the nearby house and nothing disturbed the calm night.  Inside the house, Crystal Tirana snoozed softly in a darkened room.  An artifact dream catcher hung in a corner of her room and a silver beam of light from the moon caught on its decorated edges.  A strange shadow slinked out of the dream catcher and took the form of a small seal.  Crystal stirred uncomfortably as she viewed a strange vision.  In her vision, a small seal was with its mother, then men with clubs in their hands came after the two.  The mother seal was able to escape, but the little one was left to the mercy of the men. The seal turned its head, and looked into Crystal’s eyes.  Crystal could see it clearly in the deep brown eyes of the seal, save me, they said.  Crystal sat bolt upright and saw the shadow of the same baby seal crawl back into the dream catcher “What the! Am I hallucinating” she thought to herself.  She looked at her bedside clock, exactly 3:00.  She sunk back on her pillow and thought about the strange events that had happened that night.  She had always loved animals, ever since she was little.  She had sent out petitions and learned everything that she could about all of the cruelty that animals go through all over the world.  She especially hated the seal hunt; she just couldn’t understand why anyone would kill such an adorable animal for fun, and then use its fur for fashion.  “Those people had a strange sense of fun and there are better ways to get clothing” she thought to herself.  Barker, her dog, bounded up to her room, barking furiously at the Dream Catcher.  Crystal got up and swung her legs down from the bed, the floorboards creaked under her sudden weight.  She stroked Barker, who whimpered, then sat down quietly.  The Dream Catcher had belonged to her great grandmother, and it had been passed down to her.  She took it off the wall and stared “I must be hallucinating” she told herself again and again.

    Ok AKwoof    i'll continue it

    Chapter 2

When she woke in the morning from her restless sleep the sun was still low in the sky.  Her mother had probably already left for her job, and she had probably taken her brother to the day care. For once, she was happy that she would be alone until her mother arrived; she needed the time to think.  Beside her bed, Barker slept comfortably on the soft rug that covered the hardwood floor.  Sunlight filtered into her room through the closed curtains “It sure is a perfect summer morning, right Barker” Barker lifted his head lazily and opened one sleepy eye to look at Crystal, then went back sleep.  Crystal laughed, then got up to make herself breakfast; she wanted something simple so she just spread peanut butter over a warm toast. Amber, Crystal’s tabby cat wrapped around Crystal’s legs purring loudly “Hey, you’re going to trip me, I’ll give you your breakfast as soon as I am done mine okay”.  Peanut butter wasn’t Crystal’s favorite but she ate it anyway, then she opened the refrigerator, poured some milk into a bowl, warmed it slightly then put it down for Amber to drink.  Amber ran eagerly to her bowl and started lapping up the warm milk.

Crystal had found Amber’s mother and her brother’s and sister’s dead in a back ally.  Crystal had heard Amber meowing expectantly to her mother, hoping to get fed, hoping to get an answer.  Amber was the only surviving kitten and Crystal had never let her eyes slip from her once she was in her care, she was determined to save her and care for her like no-one else ever could.  And she had succeeded; now Amber was a healthy, strong 4 month old kitten who didn’t mind living with a dog. In fact, Amber preferred to spend her time with Barker, and Barker shared the same feelings for Amber.  Crystal had also rescued Barker from an abusive owner, and she never once doubted her decision to do so; she loved both of them so much.

For Crystal, the day passed slowly, she spent her time looking through the attic, trying to find some sort of clue towards the mystery of the Dream Catcher.  The only break that she took was to eat a cold lunch of cheese sandwich at 12:00 and feed Amber and Barker.  By 7:30 pm, she still had no luck and decided for sure that it was just her childhood imagination getting to her head.  Her mother told her that a lot if she ever had a nightmare “Crystal dear, there is no such thing as monsters and ghosts, it’s just your imagination.  There really is nothing to worry about, this just means that you have a healthy imagination.” That is what her mother always told her, but she never believed her mother that there was no such things as ghosts.  After all, her mother also used to tell Crystal that it was useless to try and do anything about animal cruelty because she was only one person and couldn’t do anything about it even if she tried.  Her relationship with her mother wasn’t very strong, but she loved her any way.

She descended the stairs to the attic and closed the door, she gave Amber and Baker their supper, then she got herself some supper too and took it to the couch to sit in front of the TV.  She flicked the switch on the remote control and turned on the TV.  She found a show that she always loved to watch and settled into the couch to watch it.  Suddenly, there was interference on the channel that she was watching and the scene blurred into the same scene that Crystal had watched the night before.  The same small seal that had tried to run with its mother, she closed her eyes tight and changed the channel when she opened her eyes again the seal was still there. On every single channel that she flipped to, the same thing was showing.  Crystal started to sob; she hated to see animals going through so much cruelty.  She threw her food onto the coffee table and ran to her room crying, she stopped at the door abruptly when she saw Barker and Amber staring fixedly at the Dream Catcher.  Both of them turned their head to look at her, and Crystal noticed that both of them had the same deep brown eyes as the seal.  That’s strange, she thought to herself, Amber had green eyes and Barker had blue eyes; but there was something in their stare and Crystal couldn’t look away.  Her eyes refused to turn away, even though she willed it; suddenly she felt as though she was looking into their souls, listening to their stories.

    Chapter 3

As though Crystal was watching a movie, she saw Amber, her mother, her family.  She saw the abuse that Amber’s mother went through and she saw how she had died.  Cruel children had thrown stones at her, and she was already having trouble surviving the abuse that she had lived through with her former owner.  That had lead to her death, and Amber’s brothers and sisters had died from starvation.  Then Crystal saw Barker’s story, she saw him getting kicked by a swearing man, then being trapped in a cage without proper food to eat and water to drink; being tied to a pole so tightly that he couldn’t even move.  Then it was over.  Crystal was terrified; she walked backwards, away from her pets, then tripped on a bump in the rung and fell.  She fearfully looked at Barker, who calmly walked towards her and licked her face, Crystal thrust her hand forward and unwilling started stroking his fur; for the first time, she noticed all of his old hurts and welts that had been hidden by his soft fur.  His eye color had returned to normal, and it looked like he didn’t know what had just happened, it was the same for Amber, who came purring to rub against her hand.

The sound of the door opening filled the house “Crystal, we’re home” called Crystal’s mother, Elizabeth Tirana.  Crystal backed away from her pets and ran down the stairs, trying to act normal and cheery

“Hey mom how was your day; and oh, hello little Jacob” she said to her mother and little brother.

“Crystal, why are you talking so strange and cheery” questioned Elizabeth

“I’m not talking strange, I always talk like this” countered Crystal

“No you don’t, are you okay, should I take your temperature, maybe you’re sick”

“I’m not sick mom, just leave me alone” shouted Crystal as she stormed up the stairs and slammed the door to her room.

Elizabeth Tirana was dumbfounded ‘what has gotten into her’ she asked herself; then she lowered Jacob into his crib, and tucked him in.

There was a knock at Crystal’s bedroom door “Can I come in” asked Elizabeth

“No, just leave me alone” came Crystal’s sobbing reply

Elizabeth sighed, then opened the door; Crystal looked up, her face stained with tears.

“What’s the matter Crystal? Why are you so upset today?”

“Do you really want to know why I am crying; I will tell you as long as you won’t tell me that it is just my childhood imagination or that ghosts aren’t real.”

“Okay Crystal, I won’t tell you that it is your imagination, but please tell me why you are crying.  That’s all that I want to know, I’m your mother, you can tell me.”

Crystal took a deep breath, then pointed to the Dream Catcher and explained “It’s haunting me”

Elizabeth sighed and rubbed her temples “Crystal, Dream Catchers are meant to keep away bad dreams, they don’t haunt you okay?”

“No I swear it is haunting me” replied Crystal through her choking sobs.

“Crystal, maybe you need a councilor, I, I don’t know what else to do for you” Then Elizabeth got up and left, softly closing the door behind her.

    Re: The Dream Catcher

Is anybody what-so-ever reading this, if you are then could you give me some feedback
but i'm bored right now so i'll right the next chapter

    Chapter 4

That night, Crystal didn’t come down to eat, even though it was Tuesday, meatloaf and cake night; that was her favorite.  Oh well, she didn’t care, she didn’t want to see her mother today.  She just didn’t understand Crystal, and she never solved any of her problems; she just did what was easiest for herself.  Not what was best for Crystal.

Crystal tossed and turned in her uneasy sleep as she had another dream, there was darkness and she could see a large shadow hidden in the dark; a voice spoke to her.  “Crystal Tirana, inside your Dream Catcher I once stored my power.  I had the ability to understand and speak to every animal on the world.  And I could take the form of any animal that I pleased.  I used this power only to help the animals and now, I am no longer here, and because of this, I am passing it on to you because you are worthy of it.  You have showed great care for animals.  Use your power carefully, but keep in mind; should you ever misuse your power, you will never speak to an animal ever again.  And no-one else may know of your powers, no matter how much you may want to share it with them.” Then everything began to fade.

“Wait!” called Crystal into the darkness “What do I have to do, what can I do?”

“You must do what you can to help the animals” came the fading reply

Suddenly Crystal woke; her bedside clock read 3:00.  Crystal was excited, but she was scared too.  Was her dream real? She didn’t know.  It probably wasn’t, and either way, she had to get some sleep.

The entire night, Crystal tossed and turned, there was no way that she found comforting and she was itching to get up.  At 6:30, Crystal heard her mom leaving to go to her job and drop Jacob off at the day care.  At least she would get some time to think about this.  That eased her thoughts and she was finally able to fall asleep.

She was awakened in the morning by the sound of someone saying “Wake up Crystal, Wake up, do you know how late it is?”  That’s strange, she thought to herself before she even opened her eyes, I heard mom leaving in the morning, and there is no-one else at home.  Her thoughts clouded with horror ‘had someone broken into the house?’ She opened her eyes hastily, only to see Barker and Amber sitting beside her.  She got up, all traces of sleepiness gone.

“You’re finally awake” said Barker “It’s about time, do you know how long we have been waiting for breakfast?”

Crystal screamed, got up and started running.  She abruptly stopped, remembering her dream. COOL! She thought to herself; it is real! Or is it just my imagination again?”

“Why did you need to scream so loud” questioned Amber, who had now caught up to her “just because it is the first time that you can hear us talk, doesn’t mean that it is something to be afraid of.”

“I’m sorry; it’s just, just, so strange for me” replied Crystal uncertainly.

“Well enough chit-chat Crystal, we’re hungry” complained Barker

“Sorry, okay come downstairs and I’ll give both of you some breakfast”

Crystal watched as both of them gulped down their food without even chewing, she didn’t have an appetite herself and she just sat there and thought.  Well, if the first part of the dream was true, then that means that she could also transform into any animal of her choice.  As long as she didn’t let anyone else learn about her secret.  She thought long and hard about which animal she wanted to be, then she decided that she would become a cat.  She felt herself changing, her bones rearranging; she started growing fur and her hands and feet became paws.  Then it was done, she turned to look at herself, she was definitely a cat, there was no sign that she was even remotely related to a human.  Amber and Barker came running towards her, “you look much better now” complimented Amber “you should do this more often”

“This is so great; it must be so nice to be an animal all of the time!” agreed Crystal “And I must use this power to help animals all over the world.  That is what the voice in my dream told me.  I will, I really will use this power to its fullest”

“I’m glad you will. Lots of animals live through horrible things each day; it would be like heaven for them if anyone could help them.  Trust me, I know, I had to live through it for the first two years of my life, then you rescued me” said Barker affectionately.

    Re: The Dream Catcher

    Chapter 5

Crystal pricked her ears, she could hear something “help me, please, oh no, leave me alone” The others heard it too, “let’s go” whispered Crystal.  All three of them scampered through the dog gate and followed the urgent plea for help.  After searching for quite a long time they found the source, a woman was screaming at her dog, the dog looked starved and dehydrated.  He was thin and scrawny and his stomach was stuck nearly to his spine.  “How can she do that” hissed Amber

Crystal changed her form to that of a dog and started barking at the woman, Barker joined in too.  “What do you want?” replied the woman coldly as she started lifting her boot towards Crystal.  Barker jumped on her, sending her tumbling to the ground “Let’s go, come with us, we will help you” Amber explained to the new dog.  The four animals left towards Crystal’s house “Thank you so much, you don’t know how horrible she is”

“I don’t know, but I think that I have an idea from what I have seen” replied Crystal as she changed back into a human

“Ah! How did you just do that” wailed the new dog “You’re one of the Humans” he stammered “We must run, Human’s are not good people” he insisted to Amber and Barker.

“This Human is really good, trust us, she only wants to help you” Barker stated faithfully

    “Yeah” agreed Amber

“If you say so” replied the new dog suspiciously “but how do I know that I can trust you?”

“You can read my thoughts and talk to me, so you always know what I am thinking about.” Crystal replied plainly.

“Well, we do not even know your name, please tell us” Amber gently asked the new dog.

The new dog paused for a moment then thoughtfully answered “I do not like the name that the lady gave me, so I will tell you the name that my mother gave me, it is Sprint.  It’s because I’m a really fast runner, or I used to be.”

“It’s a nice name Sprint, my name is Amber and this is Barker” said Amber

    “And my name is Crystal”

“Okay everybody, we’re here” explained Crystal as she opened the door, “Now first thing, first, let’s get you something to eat.”

Crystal put out three bowls of food and water for all of them.  “Dig in, I hope it’s tasty”

Sprint eyed the food skeptically, then sniffed it with his bulbous nose “I don’t know if I can trust you” Answered Sprint

“Sprint, if the food was poisoned, then Amber and Barker wouldn’t be eating it right now” reasoned Crystal

Sprint sighed “it’s not like I have anything to live for even if I do die” mumbled Sprint as he took the first nibble of food.  The food was delicious, it was soft and chewy, fresh and fragrant and as soon as he took the first nibble, he couldn’t stop.  The bowl was empty, but he continued to lick it, hoping to get more food out from the corners.

“You can have more you know, all you have to do is ask” replied Crystal as she started pouring more food into his bowl.  “Thank you, oh, Thank you so much, I can’t thank you enough, this food is so tasty and I haven’t eaten properly for so long now.”

Sprint had both of his bowls refilled several times before he was finally satisfied; then, it was time for them to discuss some things.

The four of them decided that she would make a group called ‘Animal Saviors’ it wasn’t very original, but that was all that they could come up with.  They would change the name later.

Crystal turned back into a cat; she felt that it was so much nicer being an animal.  “I once knew this horse, we used to live together and we were best friends” continued Sprint casually “then the Lady sold him to someone and after that he lived a worse life than I did, he told me something about how he was a circus horse.  We should look for him, his name was Morning Star, slender white coat that he had, oh, and he had a strange shade of orange eyes.  That’s about all that I can tell you about him.”

“We will look for him, I promise, but right now, lets all get some sleep” Yawned Crystal.

“Yeah, we definitely are exhausted” agreed the other three.  Then they all bounded up the stairs to Crystal’s room and cuddled up together on the rug.

    Re: The Dream Catcher

    Chapter 6

“Crystal, where are you” called Elizabeth’s voice

Crystal woke with a start; “uh oh, my mom is home!” she was just about to change back into a human when her mom opened the door.  Crystal looked blankly at her mom then said “your home, I was wondering what time you would be here”.  Elizabeth looked down; all she had heard was a bunch of meows.  “I’ve never seen a cat like you before” enthused Elizabeth as she squatted beside Crystal and ruffled her fur.  Crystal sat up and bolted out of the door, ran down the stairs and out of the dog door.  She escaped to the privacy of the backyard where she transformed back into a human. “That was too close” she mumbled to herself as she started going towards the door.  Crystal reached out for the doorknob, but before she had a chance to open the door, the knob rotated and Elizabeth stood in the doorway.  Elizabeth let out a startled shriek and jumped back slightly, then let out her breath and exclaimed “Crystal! There you are I’ve been looking all over for you.  Where were you?”

Crystal mustered the words as calmly and clearly as she could “Oh, yeah, sorry I’m late, I was visiting with some friends, when did you get home?”

Elizabeth sighed “how many times have I told you to let me know if you are leaving the house for any reason Crystal?”

“I’m sorry; I guess I just forgot, it happens, okay mom, why do you always have to be so involved with my life?

Elizabeth opened her mouth as though she wanted to say something in protest, then she closed it again, she shrugged and went back into the house.  Over her shoulder she called “Dinner will be ready in twenty minutes” then she went into the kitchen and busied herself in cutting vegetables for dinner.  Elizabeth let out her breath ‘that was too close’ she thought to herself and she entered the house.  Sprint, Amber and Barker had already come downstairs; they were engrossed in their own conversation.  Crystal was apprehensive, ‘how much longer can I possibly hide my secret?’ she thought to herself.  But then she shrugged off her worry, it would be easier for her if she was more careful as to not get herself into such situations.

    Chapter 7

“Dinner is ready!” came Elizabeth’s soft voice and she settled down on the table with a knife and fork in either hand.  Crystal pulled back a chair, its legs squeaked against the kitchen floor, Elizabeth looked up “would you like to say Grace Crystal?” she asked Crystal expectantly.  Crystal sat down in the wooden chair, brought her hands together over her heart and earnestly said “Oh, Lord, bless this food that we are about to eat and thank you for providing us with this lovely meal. Amen.” Then Crystal and Elizabeth quietly ate the dinner of chicken with mashed potatoes and stir-fry vegetables.  Barker came and sat beside Crystal, followed by Sprint and Amber “can we have some of your chicken?” Barker asked excitedly, wagging his long brown tail. “No, you already ate you dinner, this is mine” Crystal said strictly, but then feeling bad, she gave in to Barker’s request and dropped a piece of her chicken on the floor with a slight laugh.

Elizabeth looked up “is something funny Crystal?” she asked her apprehensively.  Crystal was shocked, why had her mother spoken to her so sharply? A shocked look crossed Crystal’s face and Elizabeth must have noticed it too because she sighed then in a softer voice said “I’m sorry Crystal, it’s just I’m worried about you.  You have been acting so strange lately, I mean with your talk about the Dream Catcher haunting you and earlier, you were so defensive when I asked you where you were.  And right now, you just laughed at nothing all of a sudden.  Please Crystal, and don’t know what to do with you, please talk to me, tell me what is bothering you.” Elizabeth’s voice was almost sad and Crystal knew that she wasn’t being fair to her mother, and she was just about to start trying to explain her behavior when Jacob’s crying filled the house.   Elizabeth pushed out her chair and gave Crystal one last worried glance before she went to where Jacob had been sleeping.  Crystal sat there, slouching in her chair “Crystal, is it something that we did that is troubling you?” Amber asked sweetly “No Amber, it’s just that my mom doesn’t understand it’s not your fault” Crystal replied, her voice shaking slightly.

Elizabeth came and sat down quietly, hoping for Crystal to give her an explanation for her strange behavior. Crystal looked at her plate and pushed her food around with her fork, she was about to open her mouth and say something to her mother when she remembered what the voice in her dream had told her “And no-one else may know of your powers, no matter how much you may want to share it with them.”

    Re: The Dream Catcher

    Thanks AKwoof, okay,

    Chapter 8

As much as Crystal wanted to tell her mother, and show her what she could do, she didn’t want to lose her powers and her ability to make a difference in the world.  Elizabeth let out an exasperated sigh, “Crystal, I will call Dr. Ferro and get an appointment for you. Maybe if you don’t want to talk to me, then you can talk to someone else about your problems. Dr. Ferro has always been a trustworthy Doctor, I’m sure he will solve your problem.”

Crystal stayed quiet, even though she wanted to say to her mother that she didn’t have a problem and it was nothing that the Doctor could solve either way, but she stayed quiet.  Despite her mothers’ way of showing it, Crystal knew that Elizabeth loved her, and only wanted what was best.  So she would go to counseling, even though it could help her.  After dinner Elizabeth walked over to the phone to call Dr. Ferro’s office, “Yes, I would like to book and appointment with Doctor Ferro for Crystal Tirana” then there was a pause and she started again “Any day is okay with me, what’s that? This Monday at 3:00, okay, I’ll send Crystal over on Monday then, thank you for your time, Bye.  Elizabeth walked over to Crystal, and softly said “your appointment is tomorrow okay” Then, quiet un-expectantly Elizabeth choked back a sob, tightly hugged Crystal “I love you so much Crystal, I really do, I don’t tell you enough” feeling embarrassed by her tears, Elizabeth got up and ran into her bedroom.  Crystal was in a tough spot, she had never thought that it could have been that hard to keep such a big secret from her mother. After all, she kept dozens of secrets from a lot of different people. But this one was extremely hard.  At that time, Crystal too was overcome of a wave of tears that threatened to overflow, but she pushed them back.  She would have to make some sacrifices to keep her animal friends happy; she preferred animals to humans, which was why she was expelled from school.  She didn’t mind though, she didn’t like the kids anyway; they always made fun of her for liking animals so much.  Crystal got up and went up to her bed, her sleep troubled by uncomfortable thoughts and troubles.
